KOKUSAI ELECTRIC CORPORATION (President and CEO: Fumiyuki Kanai, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, Japan) is pleased to announce that the Integrated Green-niX Consortium for Research and Human-Resource Development (Green-niX), in which it participates as a cooperating entity, has been selected for the Initiative to Establish Next-generation Novel Integrated Circuits Centers (X-NICS), which is promoted by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

As a cooperating entity, KOKUSAI ELECTRIC participates in the Green-niX, which is promoted by the core collaborative institutions composed of three universities: Tokyo Institute of Technology (representative institution), Toyohashi University of Technology and Hiroshima University.
Aiming to make Japan’s semiconductor integrated-circuit industry greener, the Green-niX serves as a center for the promotion of integrated research on systems, circuits, devices, processes, and materials and for human resource development in an integrated manner to create semiconductors with green properties such as low environmental impact. While promoting research and development of new integrated circuit technology, which will be the key to create new markets such as EV and AR markets, the Consortium will work on practical human resource development with an eye on 30 years from now through measures such as the sharing of prototype lines and design environments so that trainees can experience the entire process of integrated circuit production.

The purposes of the MEXT Initiative to Establish Next-Generation Novel Integrated Circuits Centers (X-NICS) are to achieve Carbon Neutral 2050 and digital society and create innovative semiconductor integrated circuits which will play a critical role to ensure economic security. The Green-niX has been selected for the Initiative in recognition of its contribution to the MEXT-led formation of a core academic center for research and development and human resource development that leverages Japan’s strengths.
We will continue to participate in the Initiative and contribute to the long-term integrated research and human resource development in the semiconductor field.

Upholding its corporate slogan, “Technology & Tai-wa for Tomorrow,” the KOKUSAI ELECTRIC Group will continue to commit ourselves to pursuing economic, environmental, and social values through its combined efforts of business operations and ESG programs. Following this approach, we will contribute to achieving the SDGs and support a future where creativity and innovation can thrive.
